Determination of the Equilibrium Constants of Associating Protein Systems

VI. Evaluation of Molecular Weight (M1/Mwapp) vs. Concentration Curves for Linear and Helical Association

Paul W. Chun

ABSTRACT

Procedures for the determination of equilibrium constants of linear and helical associations based on molecular weight data have been derived. Theoretical construction of curves for M1/Mwapp vs. C reveals two clearly identifiable patterns for linear and helical association. The change in molecular conformation between linear and helical association is evidenced by a recurring pattern of irregular curves which obviously differ from those of an indefinite stacking model.
