Cover picture: Separation of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) by dielectrophoresis. Panel a illustrates how the two virus types move in a microelectrode under the application of an AC electric field. The TMV moves to the interelectrode gaps while simultaneously the HSV-1 is trapped in the center of the electrode. A photograph of the actual separation experiment is shown in b, where the yellow/green (NBD-dihexadecylamine-labeled) HSV is trapped in the center and the red (rhodamine-B labeled) TMV collects in the interelectrode gaps.
