Cover picture: Putative open (left) and closed structures (center and right) of the permeation pore of the glycine receptor comprised by the five transmembrane M2 segments. The open channel model was constructed using the NMR-derived structure of TM2 of Yushmanov et al. (Biochemistry. 2003. 42:3989-3995) as its initial basis. All figures are C-terminus view before energy minimization, with purple bonds representing M263 and pink bonds representing L255. The closed structures were generated from the open model by rotating the M2 segments 15°ree; in the counterclockwise sense (center) or by untilting the M2 segments (right).
